As a Connecticut wedding photographer with 10 years of experience, I have traveled all over the East Coast photographing couples who are deeply in love. One of the best parts of this job? Exploring beautiful, meaningful places that reflect each couple’s story. After years of adventuring through charming towns, scenic coastlines, and peaceful countryside, I’ve discovered some true gems for engagement photos. If you’re looking for the perfect spot to celebrate this season of your life, here are five of my favorite New England engagement photo locations!
If you did a double-take on that title and thought, “Does Brooklyn really count as a New England engagement photo location?” just hear me out. While New York may not officially be part of New England, it is a close enough drive for any couple who wants that city feeling. If you didn’t know, the Brooklyn Bridge sits right in a neighborhood called Dumbo. This is the perfect setup for engagement photos!
We can start with sunrise on the Brooklyn Bridge (and does it get any more romantic than that?) and then spend time wandering around the cobblestone streets of the surrounding neighborhoods. You’ll get waterfront views, city skylines, and charming neighborhood vibes all in one session. And if you need any more convincing, your engagement session in Brooklyn could be the perfect excuse for a little weekend getaway with your love.
Now we’re back to quintessential New England engagement photo locations. The Newport Cliff Walk in Newport, Rhode Island, is perfect for couples who want a coastal backdrop for their engagement photos. I highly recommend a sunrise session, so we have the walk all to ourselves and can watch the sun rise over the ocean. But if sunrise isn’t your thing, that’s okay! I have lots of experience working around crowds so your engagement photos feel like you’re the only people in the world.
I love the Newport Cliff Walk because we can get ocean views around the rocks and on the beach, and then walk around the park, take pictures by the mansions, and end the day in a cute coffee shop! If you’re not local to Rhode Island, Newport is a wonderful weekend getaway as well. There’s so much to see, and your engagement photos will be absolutely gorgeous.
Rocky cliffs. Crashing waves. Towering pines. And (wait for it) one of the only places in the United States where you can see puffins! Acadia National Park is one of the most beautiful national parks, and it’s right here in Maine. Perfect for outdoorsy couples who are ready to wander around the rocky crags, Acadia is one of my favorite New England engagement photo locations.
In Providence, Rhode Island, Roger Williams Park has a little bit of everything. With 427 acres, the park boasts multiple gardens, gorgeous fall foliage, and even a zoo! It is full of historical architecture that provides a perfect backdrop for photos, even in the winter. And the best part? The park is dog-friendly! So if you’ve been searching for a New England engagement photo location where you can bring your furry friend to be part of your pictures, Roger Williams Park may be the place for you. I always get so excited when couples include their dogs, and I have a lot of experience helping your pet pose for photos.
I didn’t specify a specific destination in Boston because the whole city is beautiful. Boston is one of my favorite New England engagement photo locations simply for its variety. And if you’ve ever been to Boston, you know that it’s such a clean, richly historical city. Whether you want city walkways, historic architecture, or lush parks, Boston has something for you. And it’s the perfect place to bring your pup!
Watch Hill is a beautiful coastal neighborhood in Rhode Island. With a mix of white sand beaches, garden walkways, and old town charm, Watch Hill is one of the best summer New England engagement photo locations. Even if you’re not local to Rhode Island, Watch Hill is ideal for a little weekend getaway with your partner and your dog. Yup, Watch Hill is another pet-friendly location, and dogs love running through the water at the beach! So if you want a variety of backgrounds for your engagement photos, including a marina with the most adorable little boats, add Watch Hill to your list!
While these are five of my favorite locations in New England for engagement photos, there are still countless others that I have shot at. Do you have a specific vision in mind for your engagement photos? I guarantee we can find something that matches your vibe! That’s one of the perks of working with a local photographer who has been in the game for ten years. I know all the hidden places that are perfect for couples’ photos. So what do you say?
