As a Connecticut wedding photographer, it means the world to me when couples trust me to capture their most important memories. Kristen and Neeraj came to me knowing that their American Indian wedding would involve a lot of moving parts. They needed to trust that their photographer would document everything they wanted, without adding more stress to the wedding timeline! Luckily, I’ve photographed many weddings at Smith Farm Gardens and worked alongside them to build a seamless timeline that left plenty of room for all the portraits they wanted!

Kristen and Neeraj got ready with their respective friends and families in the Smith Farm Gardens sun-soaked getting-ready suites. Kristen wore a traditional red saree with gold embroidery and details. She was absolutely glowing, surrounded by her closest friends and family. Neeraj wore a classic white Sherwani. They met on the porch of the farmhouse for their first look. I may have shed a tear or two behind the camera as I watched them exchange private vows. Their joy and happiness at finally getting married were absolutely contagious. We wandered all over the Smith Farm Gardens grounds, taking portraits in the beautiful sunshine before returning to the farmhouse for family portraits.
Because Kristen and Neeraj were having an American Indian wedding, they wanted to have plenty of time for portraits in both their Indian and American wedding clothes. In the months before the wedding, we sat down together to make their portrait list. This way, we knew exactly who needed to be present and when. We took time before the ceremony to get portraits with everyone in their Indian wedding outfits. We then gathered the appropriate people again right before the reception, after Kristen and Neeraj had changed! An outfit change always requires forethought, but when everything has been well planned, they don’t need to add any stress to your day!

Indian wedding ceremonies are rooted in tradition. Jessica from JH Events ensured that Kristen and Neeraj had everything they needed, from getting married beneath the decorative canopy to the table spread with significant items, called the Sofreh Aghd. The couple smiled throughout the whole ceremony, and their joy was reflected in the faces of their guests. I could feel just how excited everyone was for Kristen and Neeraj, and how supported they would be throughout their marriage!

Directly after the ceremony, Kristen and Neeraj changed into their second outfit. Kristen wore a strapless white gown with a sweetheart neckline, while Neeraj wore a timeless black tuxedo. They had a tented wedding reception on the grounds beside the farmhouse. The tent was decorated with warm string lights and rich greenery. The reception started with dances and speeches, which had everyone laughing so hard they cried. After dinner, the dance floor opened up and was full all night! Kristen and Nareej were so absolutely in love, it was a joy to photograph.

I had a wonderful time photographing Kristen and Nareej’s American Indian wedding. No matter how complicated your wedding day timeline, we will always create space for what is most important to you!
Margit is a gifted photographer who has an eye for the little moments that mean the world. From first meeting her for our engagement shoot, she was able to make both of us feel so comfortable and relaxed in front of the lens. We were nervous about looking awkward or distracted, but she knew exactly what to say and was able to direct us so we looked natural and confident. On our wedding day – in the best way – it was like she wasn’t even there. There were so many moments that went by so quickly, but she was able to capture them all without making people feel like there was even a camera around. On the fastest day of our lives, we owe her a lifetime of memories that we will treasure forever. Thank you Margit, we cannot recommend you enough!
